Resphigi: Three Botticelli Pictures
Mendelssohn: Violin concerto in E-minor
Mozart: Symphony # 41 ‘Jupiter’

The Three Botticelli Pictures triptych by Italian composer, Ottorino Resphigi, is effervescent and colorful, in musical imagery as the paintings themselves.  Following the wonderful success of Resphigi’s Gli Uccelli (The Birds) last January, the musical triptych, inspired by Botticelli’s masterpiece, is stunning.  The orchestration is airy and beautiful, and perfectly suited to the acoustics of the Capitol Theater.  We introduce the rising star, Augustin Hadelich, winner of the 2006 Indianapolis Violin Competition, who will perform Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, and conclude with Mozart’s crowning symphonic masterpiece, his Symphony No. 41 entitled ‘Jupiter’. The counterpoint of the final movement is a nod to the Baroque master, J.S. Bach, and is among Mozart’s finest fugues.
